FAQs
At the beginning of the decision-making process for the school or boarding school at Schloss-Schule Kirchberg, there are always a number of questions that experience has shown to be very important for an initial assessment. A summary of the most frequently asked questions and answers has therefore been compiled here. In addition, we are of course always happy to answer questions and provide advice in person!
General information
Gymnasium
We offer pupils who have previously completed a wide variety of school careers the opportunity to attend the Schloss-Schule. In addition to grammar school pupils, Waldorf and Realschule pupils as well as pupils attending a school abroad have the opportunity to continue their schooling with us under certain conditions.
Primary school, secondary school, secondary technical school or vocational schools
We also offer pupils the opportunity to attend the public primary schools, secondary technical schools, secondary modern schools and secondary modern schools in the surrounding area with which we cooperate. It is also possible to attend vocational schools.
As admission and the associated details to be clarified are very individual, it makes sense to discuss this during the initial contact.
Regardless of whether it is a grammar school, vocational school, primary school, secondary school or secondary modern school, the following applies: fulfilling the formal requirements is one aspect, but it is much more important that the pupils see life at the boarding school as an opportunity to develop personally in a wide variety of areas and want to play their part in this.

Organization
Schloss-Schule Kirchberg is a boarding school and state-recognized grammar school under independent sponsorship. It is supported by the non-profit foundation under civil law, the Schloss-Schule Kirchberg an der Jagst Foundation (foundation register no. 0563), which uses the non-profit limited company Schloss-Schule Kirchberg (Ulm Local Court, HRB 690267) to manage its business.
The Foundation's bodies are the Foundation Board and the Board of Trustees. All offices of the foundation are held on an honorary basis. The foundation is subject to supervision by the Stuttgart Regional Council. The shareholder of Schloss-Schule Kirchberg GmbH is the Schloss-Schule Kirchberg Foundation. The GmbH is managed in accordance with the guidelines of the GmbH Act and is supervised by the Foundation's Board of Trustees.
Schloss-Schule Kirchberg an der Jagst Foundation
The purpose of the foundation is to run the Schloss-Schule Kirchberg as a direct or indirect sponsor. In accordance with its statutes, it pursues the goal of educating children and young people to become open-minded, independent and democratic people by supporting the work in the school and boarding school and specifically promoting the education of the Schloss-Schule pupils.
The foundation pursues exclusively and directly charitable purposes.
As we accept students all year round, it is always possible to switch at any time. However, depending on the individual case, it may make sense to start at the beginning of the school year, during the year at half-term or as soon as possible. We will be happy to advise you if you are unsure when it would be best for your child to switch. Contact us at any time without obligation!
All new boarders are assigned a so-called mentor at the beginning. This mentor is a pupil who is roughly the same age, has similar interests and has been at the Schloss-Schule for some time. This mentor is then available as a contact person, helps with settling in and getting to know existing procedures. In our experience, this mentor concept is very successful, as it is often easier for pupils to get help from their peers and ask questions, especially at the beginning.
In addition, our mentors are of course also available around the clock at the boarding school. Every boarding school student has a mentor responsible for them and every boarding school student has a mentor responsible for them. These confidants are always available for all concerns, worries and problems of any kind and are of course also available to parents as contacts.
Even after moving from elementary school to secondary school, every pupil in Year 5 has a mentor from Year 10 as a contact person.
Of course, our experienced class teachers actively help their pupils to settle in at school and take intensive care of their protégés. Of course, special attention is paid to the new pupils.
In addition to the individual design of the classroom as a feel-good space, the small class size with an average of 17 pupils is a further advantage for settling in.
The school also has a counselor is available with "help and advice". Pupils and parents can turn to her free of charge at any time (whether for problems in their personal environment, settling-in problems, conflicts, learning problems or other matters). All information is of course treated confidentially.
Our primary goal is to ensure that our students feel comfortable with us!
Of course, there is always the opportunity to take a non-binding look at our school and boarding school. In addition to a discussion with our school and boarding school management, you and your family can take a tour of the school and boarding school to get to know everything better and find out whether you and your child might feel at home with us!
Call us at any time to make an appointment! We look forward to your visit!
We do not have a dress code at school, but we do have certain rules that must be followed.
We do not have a school uniform, but we do have school clothing with our logo on it (T-shirts, sweaters, polo shirts, jogging pants, caps, etc.), which students can wear on a voluntary basis in the boarding school.
An overview of our costs for local and boarding school students can be found here.

The Schloss-Schule Kirchberg an der Jagst Foundation uses the non-profit Schloss-Schule Kirchberg GmbH to run the Schloss-Schule Kirchberg. The charitable purpose of this company is reflected above all in the fact that the surpluses generated are used to the greatest possible extent to grant partial or full scholarships to pupils at Schloss-Schule Kirchberg.
We receive one-off or regular donations from our parents, friends, cooperation partners, alumni and other benefactors. These funds enable us to provide scholarships for children and young people from all income levels to attend the Schloss-Schule. The Schloss-Schul-Verein is the association of former pupils, parents and friends of Schloss-Schule Kirchberg. The Schloss-Schul-Verein promotes the cohesion of former pupils and supports the boarding school in Kirchberg both ideally and materially in all matters.
Thanks to the generous support of the Schloss-Schul-Verein, it has been possible in recent years to build a climbing wall for our pupils and purchase a Steinway grand piano for our musicians, for example.
The Schloss-Schul-Verein awards prizes, supports special plans and projects in the school, boarding school and "fabrik" and awards several scholarships every year for which students from all over Germany can apply.

School
Our Schloss-Schule is open-minded and has a reform pedagogical approach.
This means that the Schloss-Schule is open-minded, undogmatic and free of prejudice. Here, the children and young people are at the forefront as individuals - regardless of religion, nation or gender.
We focus on the holistic education of pupils with "head, heart and hand", in accordance with the reform pedagogical approach.
We offer targeted identification of potential in combination with comprehensive support for potential both in and out of school.
The Schloss-Schule has a scientific and artistic profile and offers electives in theater, music, crafts and design.
We currently have an average class size of 17 pupils. The maximum size is 20 pupils per class.
Individual teaching is important to us! Each child should be recognized and supported individually.
In large classes, children and parents often face the problem that the individual child is lost in the class. No attention is paid to them and any difficulties they may have are not and cannot be noticed. This can quickly lead to a vicious circle. We break this cycle by deliberately keeping our classes small and taking into account the different needs of each child!
Yes, in addition to teaching in small classes, we offer individual support tailored to the child.
In order to be able to optimally support pupils in their development, it is first of all important to correctly assess them both in and out of school. Only support that is tailored to the pupil can be successful. This is why we at the Schloss-Schule attach great importance to a comprehensive recognition of potential that sees and accepts all facets of the individual pupil. Only on such a basis can targeted support and holistic support be provided.
The purely academic support includes
- Homework supervision
- remedial courses (according to individual plan)
- Basic courses (according to individual plan)
- Individual tutoring/support (according to individual plan)
Yes, we offer homework supervision for children in grades 5-7, which takes place directly after lessons after a lunch break.
In the boarding school area, there is a daily working hour of approximately 1.5 hours in which homework is completed under supervision and possible control and support by the relevant subject teachers.
In the last school year, less than 3% of our lessons were canceled. In other school years, the figures are similarly low. This is due to our special "school absence concept", which means that even longer periods of substitution - for example, in the case of parental leave substitutions - are easily manageable.
As a result, school absences can be 100% ruled out in the lower school, so that we can give pupils and parents a care guarantee.
- Participation of year 8 in the nationwide "Girls' and Boys' Day" campaign
- BOGY in year 9 (career and study orientation at grammar school)
- Job application training
- Assessment Center
- Careers guidance in cooperation with the Federal Employment Agency in years 10 and 12 (including individual appointments)
- Participation of pupils in course level II in the state-wide university day for the upper school
- Career information evening for the course level by the Schloss-Schul-Verein (with regional companies, universities and former students who talk about their careers)
- Possibility of voluntary individual counseling for upper school students by the Schloss-Schul-Verein (SOBS-Stärkenorientierte Berufs- und Studienberatung)
- "Taster" of various professional fields at reputable companies in the area with which the Schloss-Schule cooperates
Boarding school
In principle, there is a "home weekend" every two weeks. If, for example, it is desired at the beginning of the change that the student goes home every weekend, we are happy to offer this option.
As we also have a number of international students, our boarding school is open every weekend and round-the-clock supervision is possible at any time if it is not possible to travel home.
Our students are of course taken to and from the train station by the boarding school's own transport service.
You are welcome to plan individually and flexibly with us!
Every school year there is a so-called "AG-Börse" at the beginning. This is where all teachers and educators present the leisure activities that are on offer in the current school year. Pupils can register what they are interested in and, of course, change again if they change their mind. Our leisure activities consist of various sporting, musical, cultural, craft and artistic activities, so there is something for everyone. In addition, we have our own boarding school gym, a sauna and several external cooperations with clubs (e.g. the dance center in Kirchberg, the Kirchberg sports club).
And our basic motto is: We try to make everything possible! If a student has a hobby that is not covered by us, we will try to make it possible! So don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!
As the Schloss-Schule has its own modern kitchen and dining hall and the food is freshly prepared every day, we are able to cater for individual wishes, diets, allergies and intolerances. In addition to breakfast and sandwiches during the break, there is a 3-course meal every lunchtime (always with a vegetarian alternative). There is also an evening meal for our pupils and sandwiches in the late evening.
Another special feature of our school are the formal dinners, which take place around four times a year in the evening. Everyone goes to this event dressed in festive attire and there is a fancy 3-course meal in the evening together with the whole boarding school. This takes place, for example, as part of a Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and sweet potatoes or the Chinese New Year with various Chinese dishes.
We have different residential units on our grounds. Our younger children live together in the "Wiesenhaus" up to Year 7. From Year 8 onwards, there are separate houses for girls and boys on the grounds. In each house, teachers (for the boys) and educators (for the girls) are available around the clock in separate residential units.
The living areas within the individual buildings (e.g. individual corridors) are staggered according to pupil age. In all buildings there is a communal area with a sofa and TV and all buildings have their own modern, communal kitchen. The showers (separate, of course) and toilets are also shared.
A special feature of both the girls' and boys' buildings are the penthouses. These are set up like a small shared flat; you have your own small kitchen and your own small bathroom. To be allowed to live here, you have to submit an application and meet certain requirements.
In general, we take great care to ensure that all our buildings are and remain in very good condition. All communal areas are cleaned regularly and renovations and modernizations are carried out regularly to offer all students a place where they feel comfortable and safe!
In general, our boarding school is designed for 2-bed rooms, but in individual cases there are also options for a single room. We try to make it possible for all A-level students to have a single room so that they have the opportunity to study intensively and undisturbed in their final year.
And don't worry, no student is simply "put" in a room with another student. Our students have a right of co-determination and can choose their room neighbors. Our aim is for everyone to feel at home at our boarding school!
The boarding school students entrusted to us come with the aim of obtaining an appropriate school-leaving certificate and developing personally. A regulated daily routine, in which work and leisure phases alternate, is intended to provide the external structure to achieve these goals. At lunch, where there is a fixed seating arrangement, there is an opportunity to discuss current issues in the groups or to announce them to everyone at the end.
Work time and quiet time are compulsory for all boarders. During these times, the pupil must have the opportunity to work undisturbed. This is ensured by the supervising teachers and mentors.
