Chinese students at the Schloss-Schule in Kirchberg are part of everyday life...but German students at the Shanghai Foreign Language School are very exotic.

In July 2024, 14 Chinese students and 3 chaperones from our partner school in China visited us at Schloss Schule in Kirchberg.

Many of our guests saw a real cow for the first time, hiked through forests and earned euro coins for the homemade smoothies at the school festival... what seems normal to us, our guests experienced as overwhelming impressions.

Our German exchange group in China was no less overwhelmed. 5 students and 2 teachers travelled to Shanghai and Beijing during the 2024 autumn holidays.

Instead of detached houses, a sea of tower blocks. Homework after a 12-hour school day and the wallet proves to be completely superfluous because almost everything can be done with a smartphone.

The German-Chinese student exchange programme has grown into a warm and lively friendship between two nations.

I am proud of our students who grew up in the countryside and were able to prove themselves as global citizens in a metropolis of 20 million people!

Our students were able to experience that it pays to memorise English vocabulary. Despite cultural differences, they were able to easily discuss similarities with their hosts of the same age.

What is certain is that such a student exchange is an overwhelming experience for everyone involved and opens up new dimensions in terms of understanding.
