It is July 1, 2025. Already in the morning, the sun is beating down on the asphalt of Kirchberg's streets. There is no wind. Around 10:00 a.m., residents of Windshöhe observe groups of young people moving from the Schloss-Schule toward the city, Rewe, and the forest. They are sometimes loud, shouting and laughing. Some of the young people are carrying poles, others plastic bags. Later, customers at the Rewe supermarket observe something similar. After 90 minutes, the same groups are seen walking back towards the Schloss-Schule. What is going on here? Isn't it school time? There is no explanation, and the questions remain.
But on closer inspection, you can see a trail left behind by the students. A trail of NOTHING. Because there is no more trash where they were. No paper, no plastic, no cans, not even cigarette butts are to be seen. The residents could breathe a sigh of relief. So could the REWE customers, because it was a campaign organized by the Schloss-Schule boarding school.
On that day, the students watched a film as an introduction to the topic and discussed issues such as waste prevention, waste separation, recycling, and upcycling. Then they collected trash, which they later used to make small works of art or develop ideas for reuse. The results were presented and applauded. The diversity of the objects and the ideas behind them was very impressive.
The campaign ended with the realization that waste does not have to be the end of value creation, but can also be the beginning of something new, and that waste can also be turned into a social experience.
