In the elective course “Representational Geometry,” five female students from Class J1 have been exploring the intersection of technical drawing, digital technologies, and artistic design this school year.
After receiving foundational training in classical drawing with pencil and compass, they undertook several hands-on projects in collaboration with the visual arts department. In the process, they compared analog and digital design methods.
The students scanned their own hands, edited the models digitally, and then produced them using 3D printing. At the same time, they created hand-molded clay models in their art classes. The projects also included digital busts based on their own portrait photos and 3D-printed reliefs based on their own photographs.
In this way, the students gained experience in classical technical drawing, working with 3D scanners and 3D printers, digital image editing and modeling, as well as traditional clay modeling.
The projects impressively demonstrate how interdisciplinary work can combine technology and creativity and open up new forms of expression.
