In the fall, the J2 advanced geography class embarked on an exciting and educational field trip to the Vogelsberg—one of Germany’s most impressive volcanic landscapes. Blessed with perfect fall weather, we enjoyed a varied program that was both scientifically engaging and entertaining.
A special highlight was the visit to the Vulkaneum in Schotten, where we were able to learn about the history of the Vogelsberg’s formation and the geological processes surrounding volcanism in a vivid way. The subsequent excursion through the volcanic landscape also offered many fascinating insights into the region’s geomorphological features.
In addition to the academic portion, there was plenty of fun to be had: During our walks through the autumnal landscape, the magnificent treetop trail, and a visit to a quarry, we gathered many wonderful impressions—and quite a few anecdotes that will surely remain in our memories for a long time to come.
The trip was a successful blend of learning, time spent together, and experiences in nature. We returned not only with new geographical insights but also with many wonderful memories.
