Boarding school and school: these are the six most frequently asked questions!

When families consider enrolling their child at a boarding school such as our Schloss-Schule Kirchberg boarding school, they usually have a ‘thousand’ questions. Based on our direct contacts with parents, we have compiled answers to the six most frequently asked questions for you in this blog post.

Parents are particularly interested in this when discussing attending a boarding school:

1. what are the biggest advantages of the combination of boarding school and school compared to a regular school?

First and foremost, one thing is crucial: boarding schools like ours offer particularly intensive and comprehensive care and support!

Everyday school life at our school is characterised by the fact that the specific strengths (and weaknesses) of each individual child can be addressed individually - and the children therefore receive particularly efficient support. On the one hand, this is possible due to the generally very small classes (currently 17 pupils per class at the Schloss-Schule) and the dedicated teaching staff. Secondly, because of the comprehensive analysis of potential and the support that builds on this (e.g. in learning to learn). Thirdly, because of the (specialised) support with follow-up lessons and homework. Fourthly, because of the early support for the development of personal initiative and the shaping of a personal life vision (in order to be motivated to learn even more purposefully!). Otherwise, life at the boarding school is structured in such a way that the children and young people find a supervised feel-good environment with clear guidelines, which supports their positive academic development, but above all also helps them to develop a positive attitude towards core values and other people and to grow into self-confident, motivated, goal-orientated adults who think and act with empathy.

2. how can we ensure that our child feels really comfortable at boarding school and school and develops optimally on this basis?

The well-being of the pupils is our top priority. This is already noticeable in the first few days, when we offer the ‘newcomers’ special familiarisation services (student mentors, special leisure activities, etc.) so that they find their feet as quickly as possible and gain access to the community. We also ensure that we provide high quality meals (freshly prepared from predominantly regional ingredients), accommodation and the organisation of daily routines. We also ensure that the children and young people always have empathetic contact persons at their side (the above-average supervision ratio makes this possible). And that there is an extraordinarily wide range of leisure activities on offer at our boarding school with a variety of opportunities for sporting, creative, social and/or manual activities together with classmates after school and learning and at weekends (if the child does not go home).

3. what role does individual support play at a boarding school like our Schloss-Schule Kirchberg boarding school?

Individual support really is at the centre of our pedagogical approach. We recognise and support the specific talents and needs of each pupil through our potential analysis and then tailor the support offered to this profile. One of the ways we promote strengths and talents (including giftedness) is by relying on the pupils' natural curiosity in their favourite subjects and challenging them in a targeted manner. We tackle weaknesses by offering pupils new (exciting) approaches to these topics and showing them how they can cope better (and therefore more successfully) with them and, if necessary, overcome or break down existing inner blockages.

4 What is everyday life like at a boarding school?

Everyday life at our boarding school is clearly structured and at the same time very varied in terms of content. In addition to regular lessons and additional learning support (e.g. in the form of homework supervision), everyday life is characterised above all by numerous joint activities and projects that contribute to personal development and, above all, bring the pupils a lot of joy. Numerous AGs and interesting excursions and events ensure that the pupils also have an interesting and enriching time outside of the periods they spend on school subjects. In addition, the pupils are also involved in self-administration (where they certainly take on responsibility).

By the way, we have included a detailed description of the daily schedule on our web subpage ´Daily schedule boarding school´ for your information.

5 How does a boarding school prepare students for their professional life, training or studies?

At Schloss-Schule Kirchberg boarding school, we attach great importance to preparing our pupils for vocational training and/or studies as well as their future careers. In addition to school education, we teach key skills such as independence, teamwork and critical thinking, which are essential for success in the modern working world. In addition, we open up exciting insights into a wide range of work and subject areas in the non-school world through cooperation with companies, non-profit organisations/institutions and universities (including internships, joint projects, visits, etc.). In addition, career counselling sessions are held at our school, as well as training sessions for job applications and interviews.
